AI Made My Favicon

You haven’t heard of ChatGPT? What rock have you been living under?!
See what Elon Musk had to say about it earlier this month:
ChatGPT is scary good. We are not far from dangerously strong AI.

OpenAI is a company that has been developing a variety of different AI-driven tools. Rather than spending the time to describe how mindblowing these applications are, I highly suggest that you simply get onto their website, and spend even just a few minutes to play around with some of the tools.
ChatGPT, which stands for Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer, is a chatbot developed by OpenAI. ChatGPT is built on top of OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 family of large language models, and is fine-tuned with both supervised and reinforcement learning techniques
A few months ago, OpenAI released DALL-E, an AI system that can create realistic images and art from a description in natural language.
That image? An AI-generated “painting of a rabbi playing chess in an old cafe”!
I needed to create a favicon for this site, and after spending some time sketching up random designs by hand, I thought I’d give DALL-E the opportunity to create me something.
My first search, I prompted DALL-E to create me “a square logo combining the letters M and Y together”.
Now, the issue here I realised, is that since I mentioned ‘letters’ in plural, the bot had no qualms giving me multiples of letters, when what I wanted was some amalgamation of my initials, M and Y. I’d like to point out that the bot created an inverted M from the tops of the two Y’s.
Nevertheless, my next prompt aimed to generate some initials, and so my next request was for “a square logo combining the letter M with Y”
This seemed to miss the mark, as I can only really make out the Y. The next wasn’t much better, as it completely separated the M and Y.
Finally, my request for “a square icon that uses the letter M and Y artistically” is where I started to strike gold.
I got this almost wireframe like image, that used negative space in a way that made both an M and Y apparent, at least to my eyes anyway.
And I loved it. So much so, that I took the concept to Sketch, polished it a little, and that’s how I have the site favicon. It’s not final, I really just wanted to get it up there, but I was really fascinated at how I could use DALL-E to conceieve different designs and imaginations I hadn’t thought of.
In any case, with the release of tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E, people are now beginning to see how AI is one of the forerunning technologies revolutionising the workplace and driving the next Industrial Revolution.
Happy Holidays! (of course, AI-generated)
